Harrington Sound daredevil under a spell

High speed: the junction of Harrington Sound Road and Paynters Road, Hamilton Parish (File photograph by Mark Tatem)

Dear Sir,

Permit me some space to write my concern over what I had witnessed on the road — a case of bad behaviour and foolishness.

May I direct this letter to whom it may concern, ie, to the driver of a white station wagon travelling east along Harrington Sound and Paynters Road where they meet. The time was about 10am on Sunday, May 6 at a very high speed — 60 to 65mph.

You know who you are. I would like to inform this driver that, unbeknown to yourself, although you were at the wheel, you were under the control of the devil or something else to become so foolish to commit such an act as this.

And may I remind you also, driver, you were not the only one using the road at this time of the morning.

As you had gone by at great speed, I stopped my walk and looked back at your car, but could not record your number because of your speed.

The Bible states in Peter 5:8: “Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.”

That moment you had become his servant who was under his control.

We have had some serious road crashes — what makes you think it will not happen to you or cause some innocent person who may become your victim because you were late for whatever the reason to get there?

Sorry cannot fix anything. Again, I must remind you that it was not you who had control but to whom you were committed to, like many others who fall under his spell.

Please slow down, driver. Be kind to yourself and to others who use the road.
