I am not a victim, Mr Corbishley

Dear Sir,

Like many other patients of Bermuda Healthcare Services and Brown-Darrell Clinic, my medical files were seized by the Bermuda Police Service without my permission.

I am deeply offended and ask that the BPS return my files immediately.

I am concerned also that, whether innocently or presumptively, Stephen Corbishley, the Commissioner of Police, referred to me and other patients of the clinics as “victims”. Methinks, Mr Commissioner, that you have been misinformed.

I am not a victim. I am a blessed beneficiary of life-saving treatment from the clinics. I am someone whose very existence was in danger.

Only through the quick action of Mahesh Reddy in seeing me and ordering a CT scan immediately was it discovered that I had a bleeder on my brain, such that I had to be flown to Boston for emergency surgery and treatment.

I am here today because of what you may think was an “unnecessary” test. Dr Reddy saved my life.

I have been a patient of the clinics for more than 20 years. I am considered to be a highly educated individual.

In addition, I am a third-degree black belt in the art of judo. For both of these reasons, I have always been a knowledgeable participant in my healthcare decisions.

No one duped me into having any tests. I am no one's victim.

Finally, I am eternally grateful to Ewart Brown and to Dr Reddy for bringing world-class medical care to the community, and for taking excellent care of me and my family over the years.

No, Sir, I am not a victim. I am a very grateful beneficiary of the medical care my family have received from Bermuda Healthcare Services over several years.
