Test, test, test ...

In great demand: coronavirus detection test kits

Dear Sir,The Government is doing a good job ensuring that people keep a safe distance and is being proactive with an evening curfew. Also the businesses assisting with health workers to get back and forth to the hospital are to be congratulated. Talking with one of my sons today, he mentioned about further testing in Bermuda. Listening to the news and reports of how South Korea is keeping the pandemic to a minimum by testing, testing and more testing, they have managed to control the spread as much as it is possible. Maybe Bermuda should consider using this methodology in view of the fact that we are dealing with 60,000 people and not needing millions of tests. Of course, there may be a problem obtaining such tests, but we really should up the ante. It would be of interest to know how many tests have been ordered. We would then have to do follow-up checks, so in reality we should be ordering some 120,000 tests. Once cleared, could some people get back to work, thus reducing government payouts? It would not be easy to administer and, of course, hotel workers who may be clear could not work with the island shut down and no visitors in the hotels; they would still need to have assistance. There is no simple solution, but we should be open to discussion. Stay safe, well and healthy Bermuda!ANTONY SIESE Paget>/b>
