Whitney Institute board badly misses Alphaeus ‘Artie’ Black

November 23, 2014

Dear Sir,

I think the obituary of Mr Alphaeus Black in The Gazette and by Mr Ira Phillip on Saturday were both excellent reviews of a wonderful man — but I would like to make a couple of points.

1. Mr Black was appointed to the Board of Whitney Institute by the Board of Trustees, led then by Sir Henry Vesey not Sir Henry Tucker — although he may have suggested the idea.

2. The Rev Musa Daba is now priest in charge of St Mark’s Church, Smith’s Parish, but he had been assistant priest at St John’s, where he had a lot to do with caring for St Monica’s Mission, which was where he and Mr Black became friends, for Mr Black was a member of the St Monica’s congregation.

We miss Mr Black on the Board at Whitney and regret that he had not been able to be active on it for some years.

Yours sincerely,

WILLIAM SEARS ZUILL SR
