Out of sight, out of mind in Indiana
Dear Sir,
I am a Bermudian citizen living in the United States. Last November, I decided to apply for a social insurance number and filled out paperwork with attached information proving that I am still a Bermudian citizen (birth certificate, Bermuda passport information).
I was not asking for money but just a social insurance number. Since that application, I have not heard from anyone. I sent several e-mails to the Department of Social Insurance, Government Administration Building, Ground Floor, 30 Parliament Street, Hamilton HM 12, asking if they had received my application and as of the post have not.
So, on March 19, 2021, I sent an e-mail to Curtis Dickinson, the Minister of Finance. He has not responded, either. This led me to thinking that the Bermuda Government is only for Bermudians living in Bermuda and not for all Bermudians.
Does distance nullify one’s standing? Does birthright mean nothing? Does holding to one’s nationality mean nothing? What about courtesy, professionalism and openness?
I hope that others do not experience the impoliteness and lack of service that I have.
