Just a thought ...
Dear Sir,
I’m sure this idea has been floated before. Why not organise groups of our Westgate “residents” to take care of trimming roadside foliage, keeping the parks tidy and generally helping to carry out some of the jobs that our Works & Engineering and Parks departments seem to have difficulty attending to regularly.
No doubt you have seen this done overseas. Further, because there are probably skilled tradesmen at Westgate — electricians, plumbers, masons — why don’t they attend to the repairs at Westgate and other government buildings. Surely this type of work would encourage them to use the valuable skills they have and give them a purpose while they are incarcerated.
Everyone has a desire to be needed and this would help do just that. Something to think about.
