Spending on overseas trips an issue only since 1998

Dear Sir,

I, too, felt that the behaviour of Shaun Connolly at the Premier's press conference a few days ago was rude and disrespectful. I take issue with the belligerent manner.

How the people's money is being handled is a legitimate concern; however, as someone who used to read The Royal Gazette from the front to the back in a serious manner since I was 10 years old, I don't ever remember United Bermuda Party members being questioned on how government money was spent on their trips abroad on government business. The first time that subject was broached was from the first time that the Progressive Labour Party was voted in in 1998. Subsequently, the question was asked after the One Bermuda Alliance became the government. Otherwise, bias would be too obvious.

I recall some years ago when someone was regaling me with an account of his luxurious travel with a UBP premier and then, on realising the import of his words, reined in the conversation.
