Bermuda Health Council decision on MRIs so unfair on patients

Dear Sir,

JJ Soares (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Bermuda is indeed lucky to have an up-to-date clinic such as the one that JJ Soares has provided on Burnaby Street. I am particularly interested in his open MRI machine as, being very claustrophobic, I am unable to use the one at the local hospital.

I am concerned that the Bermuda Health Council is refusing to allow full reimbursement by HIP and FutureCare for any scans done at Dr Soares’s centre. This means that numerous HIP and FutureCare patients who need to use his open MRI machine will have to pay for this service because their insurance will not cover the cost.

Any claustrophobic or overweight patients will be out of luck. This is so unfair and unreasonable, and I would love to know the reason behind this decision.
