Fixing pothole problem requires a Roads Scholar

(Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

Driving into and, fortunately, out of a pothole in Warwick this morning (June 6, 2023), which seemed to be the size of a child’s wading pool, has prompted me to write another letter. When will we hear something — anything — from the Department of Works and Engineering about what it plans to do to remedy the very poor road conditions.

It begs the question: do the Minister of Public Works and powers that be drive on the same roads as the Bermuda public? They must be embarrassed to admit that they cannot, or will not, come up with a solution. The only people who are benefiting from the potholes are the automotive garages who are working on the wheel-alignment problems on our vehicles. Shall we call it suspension tension?

We hear of consultants being paid handsomely to work on various matters. Can we hire a pothole consultant? Or, better yet, a “Roads Scholar”.

Let’s have some explanation from Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch and W&E as to what will be done for us to get back to better road conditions.
