The existing floodlight set-up at Bernard Park South, home of North Village Community Club (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

I find it incredible the cost incurred for floodlights at various sporting locations. With the existing debt, government support is not something the taxpayer can afford. I realise Fifa made a grant towards the Bernard Park installation, but there are still the running costs for such an operation.

Back in the 1960s, the island played sport on Thursday afternoons and Saturday afternoons. Lights were not required for the field events, nor for the sailing activities.\

What is the cost of operating these facilities at the National Sports Centre and other locations? How much does the Government (the taxpayer) contribute?
