Bermuda Broadcasting promises to do better
Dear Sir,
The Bermuda Broadcasting Company would like to publicly address the recent comments and complaints concerning the delivery of our programming.
First, we sincerely apologise for every occasion on which we have fallen short of our own high standards. These technical disruptions are just as frustrating for our team as they are for our valued viewers and listeners.
For some time, Bermuda Broadcasting has been undertaking critical upgrades to ageing systems that had reached the end of their operational life. We have been working closely with our overseas network partners to manage these transitions as smoothly as possible. However, we acknowledge that the process has come with unforeseen challenges, and that the delivery of content has, at times, been negatively affected. Unfortunately, several complex issues arose concurrently, compounding the disruption.
We want to reassure the public that we are working diligently to resolve these issues and implement long-term solutions. Broadcasting is a highly technical field, and when multiple organisations are involved in large-scale system upgrades, complications can occur despite best efforts.
We understand the inconvenience and frustration these interruptions have caused, and we are genuinely sorry. At times, the root cause lies outside of our control, and we encourage cable subscribers to also liaise with their service providers to help isolate and address any issues that may arise.
Despite these temporary setbacks, Bermuda Broadcasting remains steadfast in its mission to deliver trustworthy news and outstanding live coverage. While we are willing to take the criticism, we also want to remind viewers of the vital role television continues to play — especially in covering significant national events such as the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby, general elections, hurricanes, Eastern Counties cricket, SailGP and daily news.
In a small country such as Bermuda, a diversity of independent news sources is essential to a healthy democracy. As the island’s de facto national broadcaster, we take that responsibility seriously. That is why we are pushing ahead with upgrades, including a refreshed website and a new app in development, as part of our broader efforts to evolve and improve.
Our viewers and advertising partners can rest assured that Bermuda Broadcasting is fully committed to restoring reliability across all platforms and continuing to deliver relevant, high-quality content. Your patience, loyalty and understanding mean a great deal to us, and we thank you for standing by us as we navigate these growing pains.
