Not in favour of permanent emigrants having the vote

Dear Sir,

I am very much in favour of students having a vote in elections or referendums. Hopefully, they will be returning to their island home. They would have to be registered at their home address.

However, I am against Bermudians who have emigrated having a vote. They chose to leave Bermuda to live overseas. Why should they determine the future of the residents of Bermuda?

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, stated Bermudians have emigrated over the past couple of decades under different administrations. I would like to remind him that during the past 27 years, the Progressive Labour Party has been the Government for most of that time.

We need more residents to pay taxes so that all government programmes can be paid for. Unfortunately, lowering import duties will not solve the problem. Where will the money come from to operate government?
