Commercial interests squeezing out beachgoers
The following is an edited online objection, shared with The Royal Gazette, which was sent to the Department of Planning re Southlands National Park Development #P0157-25
To whom it may concern,
This is a formal objection to the above planning application. The question is, why does the Government feel the need to diminish our few open spaces by erecting buildings and parking lots?
This area would better serve the public with park benches and tables placed in the area, and the facilities for a lunch wagon. The beach itself is not a large beach, and access to the beach is in need of severe upgrading.
At the moment, the general public are severely disadvantaged for the use of Horseshoe Beach, as the licensed enterprise now commands an exceptionally large portion of the western part of the beach with umbrellas and beach loungers.
Prior to the completion of the Bermudiana hotel project, the Government has spent an untold amount of public funds on a restaurant/cafeteria at this site, creating an abundance of restaurant facilities in the area.
