Final appeal for rumble strips at Death Junction
Dear Sir,
I am driven by a very unfortunate road fatality to appeal to authorities for rumble strips or speed bumps on Knapton Hill in the vicinity of the intersection with Harrington Hundreds Road.
Since moving to Knapton Hill four years ago, I have seen the aftermath of seven crashes at that intersection — three of them occurred in one day!
The intersection has its inherent hazards owing to bends and inclines, but a significant contribution to the danger of that site is the high speeds of drivers on Knapton Hill as they approach the intersection. Yes, there are three mirrors at the intersection, but they do not help much to properly see approaching vehicles or to get an accurate sense of distance.
I travel by bus mostly and I do not feel safe waiting at the Knapton Hill stops nearest the intersection, as vehicles speed past. In fact, pedestrians were involved in two of the crashes referred to earlier.
The area is not at all safe for walkers.
Last year I contacted an official requesting rumble strips. I was told that emergency vehicles use Knapton Hill, and that strips and speed bumps would slow them down. I often hear emergency vehicles along Knapton Hill, and I heard when they arrived at the intersection for that crash that turned out to be fatal.
So I am requesting appropriate authorities to implement effective measures to slow down the speed of drivers on Knapton Hill as they approach the intersection with Harrington Hundreds Road.
