Letter: too much public spending is irresponsible

Dear Sir,

Once again I must put pen to paper. I have never seen such ignorance, stupidity and total disregard for financial responsibility from one government, the PLP.

Bermuda is $3 billion in debt, paying $150 million a year in interest.

The PLP goes and buys all new cars, 10 per cent raises, travelling all over the world to useless conferences.

They should be using this money to pay down debt. Have they no sense of responsibility? How can they look their children in the eyes because that’s who they are leaving the debt to?

How totally irresponsible; they should all be ashamed of themselves.

I am also confused about something else and perhaps your readers can enlighten me. I thought the BTA was supposed to promote Bermuda overseas, encouraging new hotels to set up here, getting permanent cruise ships in Hamilton, St George’s Harbour and maybe Morgan’s Point.

I thought Butterfield Bank was sponsoring the PGA at Port Royal. Why is the BTA giving $17 million?

Why hasn’t the BTA reinstituted College Weeks? They bring intelligent youth to Bermuda. If you show them a good time, they will return for their honeymoons and vacations.
