Electronics retailer Redlaser Ltd sold 15 Apple TVs in a single day on its website as part of eMonday.People snapped up the TVs after the company lowered the price from $169 to $139 as an eMonday special.Redlaser, which has a website and a physical store on Bakery Lane, Pembroke, took part in this week’s Chamber of Commerce-sponsored online shopping event modelled after the US Cyber Monday holiday.Organisers yesterday hailed it a success, although sales numbers were still to be finalised.“We were surprised at how much of a response we got,” said Redlaser co-owner Joseph Calauro.“We ended up extending the offer after the 24-hour deadline after people called us saying they had heard about the deal.”He said Redlaser was considering holding another sale this coming Monday, which may involve a popular “goody”.More than two dozen local retailers with websites signed up for the event, offering up to 50 percent savings on everything from shoes to books to handcrafted jewellery and technology services.“It was extremely successful and compared to last year, there were definitely more etailers signed up, more visits or hits to the eMonday and etailers websites and more online sales,” said eMonday coordinator Coral Wells.Ahead of the event she had said participating retailers were giving bigger and better deals than last year after seeing how popular Bermuda’s recent Black Friday sales were.Bookmart offered 10 percent off all books online.Gibbons Company, meanwhile, offered as much as 25 percent off online on lingerie as well as 50 percent off selected cotton blankets, 25 percent off Betsey Johnson jewellery and savings on its designer boots and shoes. The department store’s CEO Paula Clarke said the website had a good response, and she felt the event helped to increase awareness of etailers in Bermuda. She said the most popular items people ordered online were $19.99 Happy Napper cushions, $49 electrc kettles and other appliances plus men’s pyjama sets. She noted the store’s online site continues to “have more sales from overseas shoppers than domestic sales”.Jewellery maker Alexandra Mosher said she saw a spike in sales on her website on eMonday, with more than 1,600 hits.“It was amazing!” she said. “One hundred percent of the sales were for pieces in my Bermuda Reef and Isla Bermuda collections. Many smart shoppers bought a pair of earrings as their order, and after checking out e-mailed me to make sure the pendant I send (as a special eMonday offer) would match the earrings. Some of the sales were for multiple pieces, so while there were eight web orders, there were actually 12 pieces sold.“Ms Mosher said to support the eMonday event she did her own Facebook promoting, tweeting and “a direct email blast” that day.AA
