New A/C system offers big cost savings

A new energy efficient air conditioning unit has been installed by an Hamilton-based architectural firm which the company claims will reduce its electricity bill by more than $550 per year.The ECO3, manufactured by Vancouver-based Smartcool Systems Inc and distributed in Bermuda by Bermuda Engineering Co Ltd in partnership with Air Care Ltd, was put into the offices of Cooper Gardner two to three months ago and already the form has been reaping the benefits of cost savings with a return on its initial investment of $2,000 within two years, according to partner John Gardner.“The ECO3 installation on our office air conditioning unit will cut our electricity bill by over $550 per year, giving us a return on investment in under two years,” said Mr Gardner.“This increased energy efficiency is helping us meet our goal of becoming a greener company and makes clear economic sense.”Mr Gardner said that being based in a 22-year-old building at Par-la-Ville Place the company was always looking at ways to be more efficient and the opportunity to use its one floor of separately air-conditioned and monitored space was ideal with the firm more than happy to be a the guinea pigs for the implementation of the new technology on the Island.“It seems to be making the difference which is great,” he said.“It feels great to be a more efficient, financially and to be a responsible corporate citizen.”Stuart Kriendler, manager at Bermuda Engineering, said: “We are very excited to add the ECO3 to our roster of high quality energy efficiency products.“The commercial electricity rate in Bermuda is near 30 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), with residential rates nearing 40 cents/kWh, so our customers are always looking for ways to reduce their energy consumption.
