Old Towne market to open for Christmas Eve
St George’s retailers are taking advantage of Christmas Eve falling on a Saturday this year with plans for a number of events throughout the day.East End stores as well as the Olde Towne Market will be open and a special ducking of the wench will take place.Chamber of Commerce East End divisional chair Cheryl Hayward Chew said: “This Saturday last minute shoppers and holiday revellers will have a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in the holiday spirit in St George’s. The Olde Towne Market, which is normally open on Sundays, will be open from 11am to 3pm, with great last minute shopping ideas, unique stocking stuffers and fabulous bargains.“Additionally, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will be featuring their weekly Rendezvous activities, commencing with a walking tour of the Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, at 10.30, followed by a meet and greet with the Mayor and a chilly re-enactment of the ducking of the wench at 12 noon.”Ms Hayward Chew said she wanted to thank the hard-working Olde Towne Market Committee and major sponsor, the St George’s Economic Empowerment Zone.Chamber executive vice-president Joanne MacPhee said: “We are delighted that our East End Division is joining forces with other businesses in St George’s to celebrate the start of the holidays.“It is yet another opportunity for Bermudians to embrace our Go Local shopping campaign and truly get into the spirit of Christmas. St George’s has so much to offer and with the Olde Towne Market open, the town will be all a buzz with activity.“In addition to shopping there will be opportunities to enjoy delicious local fare at East End restaurants, so we are enthusiastically encouraging folks to head east on Saturday to enjoy the festivities.”
