A taste of the Middle East is coming to the former Greg's Steakhouse on the corner of Parliament and Church Streets.Chef Amre Omar and his business partner are taking over the restaurant, which closed in late 2010.Mr Omar said yesterday that the space was still under renovation and hoped to be open soon. He said the concept will be “very pleasant surprise” for Bermuda and “totally unique”, but would not elaborate.Meanwhile, a restaurant insider said the new eatery is expected to serve Middle Eastern cuisine.Mr Omar previously worked at the now closed Plaza Cafe in the Walker Arcade, which was the former Bistro 12. Owners Donte and Kelly Hunt had introduced dishes from Mr Omar's native Egypt, including a kebab roaster. However, Mr. Hunt confirmed to The Royal Gazette this week that Plaza Cafe closed late last year. He said he believed it was soon reopening under new ownership.Greg's Steakhouse was opened for four years before owner Greg Wilson closed it, blaming the economy and operational expenses.
