Scrapbook speciality store opens in St George’s

Residents who have caught on to the scrapbooking craze as a hobby will soon have a speciality store to pick up their supplies from.Corrine Parris, owner of longtime party supplies store Surprise, on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish, is opening a new store in St. George’s in March that will focus on scrapbooking.Surprise Scrapbook Boutique will be located in a retail space above The White Horse Tavern.Ms Parris said she decided on that location because the rent for the space was reasonable and it was “friendly and cosy”.She has had Surprise on North Shore for 12 years now and specialises in decorations and personalising party favours and keepsakes, including ribbons, napkins, pencils, books, invitations, favour boxes, chocolate bars, T-shirts, mugs and more. They also rent chair covers and table cloths.She said she recently took up scrapbooking as a hobby after being invited by friends to some scrapbooking parties locally.“I really enjoy it and find it relaxing,” she said. “And I have so may photos it gives me something to do with them.”Scrapbooking, which is a $1.6 billion industry in US, is the art of combining photos and other forms of memorabilia into a scrapbook album.Ms Parris said she and her friends mostly had to order their supplies online, giving her the idea to open a speciality store.She also has a special scrapbooking section online at her website www.surprise.bm, which lists many of her items and prices including paper, cards and scrapbook decor.
