A new car wash has opened its doors in the centre of Hamilton.Donning bright blue and green company shirts, staffers at EcoSteam Car Cleaning offer steam-cleaning services from its outside location in Par-la-Ville car park.As first reported by The Royal Gazette in February, EcoSteam Car Clean is a pilot programme approved by the City of Hamilton.Owned by Gregory Allen Hunt and operated and managed by his son, Donte Hunt, the company uses steam technology to remove dirt, stains, grease, odours and other contaminants from a variety of surfaces, including car exteriors, leather, vinyl and upholstery.Mr Hunt formerly owned Plaza Café in Hamilton, however, closed the eatery as the local economy began to struggle. After being out of work for several months, he approached the City of Hamilton with his family business idea.“It’s a business that is needed, everyone wants their car to be clean,” he said. “It [business plan] just makes sense.”According to Mr Hunt, the process is also chemical free and is environmentally friendly, saying they only use less than two litres of water per car.Prices range from $30 for the basic exterior package for a small car up to $140 for a large car to be detailed inside and out.EcoSteam Car Clean has only been open a week but so far, business has been steady, says Mr Hunt.“We’re a small business and we’re surviving,” he said. “Our services have been well received, people are talking and they like what we do.”EcoClean has one full-time staff, Hyman Bartley who had previously been a taxi driver and part-time staffer, Corey Boyce.Mr Hunt’s staff have been trained and have passed standard employment background checks, like police and drug screening.Should the pilot programme prove successful, the operation is looking to expand into other city lots adding that as the company grows, they will be looking to hire more employees.“We’re looking to branch into corporate cleaning and hopefully into other City lots,” said Mr Hunt. “There’s a demand for trustworthy and professional service and that’s what we do.”EcoSteam Car Clean is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Customers can ‘walk in’ or call for an appointment on 704-4868.For more information visit www.ecosteamsolutions.com.
