Huge discounts on offer in ‘Shop, Dine and Unwind’ event

Hamilton retailers and restaurants have come together for a one-night shopping and eating extravaganza with a wide-range of discounts leading up to the May 24 holiday.This Thursday evening 60 stores and eateries in the city will stay open until 8pm for shoppers to browse discounts ranging from 10 to 75 percent. For retailers, this is weekend is the most important time period for sales leading up to the Bermuda Day holiday.“We want to demonstrate what fantastic style and value the Bermuda retail sector has to offer,” explained Paula Clarke, chair of the retail division of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Gibbons.Entitled “Shop, Dine and Unwind”, the initiative was the brainchild of the Chamber’s retail division, in partnership with the restaurant division, to promote the organisation’s ongoing “Go Local” campaign.All Wrapped Up will offer 17 percent off store-wide, The Booth ten percent and Secrets 20 percent, all between 5 and 8pm. Brown & Co, The Phoenix and Annex Toys will offer ten to 75 percent off of selected items along with a wine, champagne and juice tasting in their Queen Street home store.The Irish Linen Shop is offering ten percent off plus champagne for customers who make a purchase over $50.Gibbons Company will feature style stations with live models in Men’s Fashion, Juniors, swimwear and intimate apparel showing the hottest looks for May 24 holiday weekend.“Plus we will have a wine tasting in the basement, Heineken tasting in Men’s and a cocktail tasting in Lingerie,” said Ms Clarke. “It is all about having a fun, interactive shopping experience.“We are very excited about this initiative which will bring shops from all areas within the City limits together with participating restaurants to promote our Go Local campaign,” she added. “A total of 60 stores and restaurants will be participating; all the stores will be open late and the restaurants involved in the promotion will all be offering special late shopper discounts.”Restaurants will offer discounts as well, with the Little Venice Group, Island Restaurant Group, Muse, Flanagan’s and Coconut Rock offering ten percent until 9pm and the Little Venice Group and Island Restaurant Group offering 20 percent post 9pm.Supporting the event Chamber EVP Joanne MacPhee said: “Our stores are full of wonderful merchandise, at very competitive prices, so we urge shoppers to come into the City on Thursday night and get into the holiday spirit.”The city-wide initiative follows on the heels of the City Food Festival and Restaurant Week aimed at attracting shoppers into Hamilton.The following stores and restaurants are participating in Shop, Dine & Unwind this Thursday, May 17: All Wrapped Up, Annex Toys, April Branco Art Gallery, A.S.
