PwC names Kelly, Zuiker 2012 scholars

PwC in Bermuda has named two Peter Mitchell scholars — Michelle Kelly and Somer Zuiker.Ms Kelly has just completed her third summer working as an intern at PwC and plans to return next year.Ms Zuiker was a PwC High School Award winner.The scholarship, awards and programme are part of PwC’s HeadStart initiative, which provides career opportunities to youngBermudians interested in pursuing a career in business.Darren Johnston, PwC territory senior partner said: “I am pleased to offer my congratulations to Somer and Michelle. They are both outstanding young Bermudians who show great potential and we are happy to give them the support they need to begin their professional careers.”Ms Kelly, a senior at the University of Notre Dame, is currently pursuing a Business Administration degree with a double major in accounting and political science with a minor in international business. She will graduate in 2013 and plans to pursue a career in accounting.She attended Mount Saint Agnes Academy.Ms Zuiker is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Queen’s University, where she is about to enter her sophomore year. Prior to Queen’s she attended Saltus.She will graduate from Queen’s in 2015 and plans to work toward becoming a qualified financial analyst as well as a qualified accountant.As well as excelling in academics, both young Bermudians have dedicated the community — in Bermuda and at their respective universities.Ms Kelly divides her time at university between volunteering as a student tutor and participating on the service committee for the National Political Science Honour Society, as well as volunteering at her local church in Bermuda.Ms Zuiker has been actively involved as a member of the parish community at St. Patrick’s Church and volunteers with Commerce Kids, an organisation at her university classrooms and playgrounds of community schools to interact with children and serve as role models.The scholarships are awarded to students who not only demonstrate academic strength and have a well rounded school career, but also have strong character and leadership qualities.
