Airport set for next phase of new blue paint job

Hues of blues: The new facade of the airport terminal greets tourists with a calming reflection of Bermuda's natural beauty.

Tourists are now greeted with the bright blue facade of the LF Wade International Airport thanks to the graduates of the Small Business Construction Incubator (SBCI) programme. The project was the second public works initiative borne out of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation’s (BEDC) Hands Up and SBCI programmes which allows graduates of the initiative to bid on construction jobs.Redeemed Construction, owned by programme graduate Pandora Moore, won the airport contract and set to work painting the northern exterior of the terminal and control tower that face the airport tarmac and Kindley Field Road. The project also included masonry and maintenance prep of the wall prior to painting. The colour scheme featured the various colours of water, sky and sand in an effort to reflect Bermuda’s natural beauty. The project took a little over three months and was completed on budget.“Redeemed Construction crew has done an outstanding job,” said Robert Daniels, superintendent technical services at Airport Operations. “We hope to mirror that when we look to commence work on the southern side of the building.”The tendoring process for that portion of the airport has yet to begin. The SBCI programme is designed to equip businesses with the skills they need to compete well in the tendering process for Government contracts. The 16-week series of seminars and workshops cover all aspects of running a construction firm including accounting, marketing, contracts and estimating, business strategy and project supervision.“It was a pleasure to work with Ms Pandora Moore of Redeemed Construction,” said project manager and BEDC assistant executive director, Lucrecia Ming. “She made it easy for me to project manage this job due to her responsiveness and care working with the team at airport operations.”
