The new Strykz Bowling Lounge in St David’s has adopted the boutique concept that has become popular in the US and Europe, says owner Philip Bailey. The improvements include an automatic bumper system, new furnishings, and a Steltronics scoring system.Mr Bailey, who also owns All 4 Fun Party Rentals, said Strykz signed a deal with US Bowling Corporation for equipment and services.Three weeks ago two installers from USBC came to the Island to install all the equipment and this past weekend a Steltronics representative trained staff on the scoring system. In addition, two projector screens were installed, which can be lowered over four of the lanes.Companies can purchase advertising space and it can run on the screens. Alternatively, for private functions, he said Strykz can display company logos or even do a slide show for guests.Strykz is a 10-lane facility which will cater mainly to the social bowler, however, it also welcomes leagues to meet and discuss their needs with Mr Bailey.“In October 2011, I made inquiries to BLDC about the empty facility,” Mr Bailey told us.“At the time I was informed they were planning to put it out to tender and to submit an application once they advertise. As far as I know, my application was one of six that were submitted. I was pleased that I was the successful applicant. The time frame from applying and signing a lease took over a year. And I received the key to the premises at the end of November 2012. I started work immediately as there was much to do.”Mr Bailey said phase two of the project includes a state of the art audio and lighting system, and a full service restaurant and bar.Opening hours are: Monday to Thursday 4pm to 10pm; Friday 4pm to midnight; Saturday 12 noon to 12 midnight; and Sunday 12 noon to 8pmHe said the hours were subject to change based on demand. And, he said, “We offer bowling by appointment for any groups wishing to bowl outside of our regular hours of operation. Children and senior rates are $6 per game, adults are $8 per game and shoe rental is $3 per pair.Strykz, on Southside Road, opened with a soft launch yesterday and a grand opening is being planned for June.
