Trio celebrate 25 years at Coldwell Banker

Leading ladies in the real estate business: Coldwell Banker’s (from left) Heather Chilvers, Joy Jones and Karen Brine are celebrating 25 years in the realty industry this year

Karen Brine, Joy Jones and Heather Chilvers are celebrating 25 years at Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty this year, the real estate company has announced.

Ms Jones and Ms Brine started working at Coldwell Banker on the same day — September 5, 1989, while Ms Chilvers began her career in real estate on 27 April of that same year.

Coldwell Banker explained that Ms Jones was first hired as a secretary, and from there decided that she wanted to become a real estate sales person.

She is quoted by Coldwell Banker as saying: “I was immediately attracted to the excitement and fast pace of the business. My first job as a salesperson was in the rentals department where I was able to obtain invaluable knowledge and experience. I was able to successfully build numerous customer and client relationships, with many still remaining to today.”

The realtor said she has seen many changes over the years, with the market very busy at times, or dead at others, remembering the days people made offers on property sight unseen ‘subject to viewing’, as well as seeing properties sit on the market for over three years.

Ms Chilvers worked for five years in the Bank of Bermuda real estate department, before the real estate division was bought out by LPG and became Bermuda Realty. Then, in 2001, Bermuda Realty merged with Jones Waddington to become Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty, a locally owned and operated company.

Ms Chilvers said: “One of the moments I remember best is selling my first house in Tucker’s Town in 2006. The other was going through the sale of my own home as part of the divorce process. It made me realise what an emotional process it is, and it has enabled me to be much more empathetic and understanding during this process with others.”

Ms Brine began her career at Jones Waddington as the manager of the rental department. “This was a small company, and very family oriented as most of us were much younger and had young families — we shared great times.

“In later years, we saw the merger with Bermuda Realty and our small family grew significantly to over 50 staff members. Greater challenges came with this merger as well as excitement, and of course the unknown. Twenty-five years later the challenges, excitement and adventures still play a part in my profession with my current position as sales representative and vacation consultant.”

Ms Brines added: “Some of my greatest moments have been working with purchasers who share in the search for their ‘dream home’ while seeking your guidance and experience.”
