With its brightly coloured shop front it is virtually impossible to miss the new party supplies store ‘B4 The Party’ on King Street — and that is precisely the effect owner Shadai Simmons wanted to create.

The bold, multicoloured stripes on the outside wall were the first sign that something new was coming to the east end of Hamilton, and it was a sight that piqued the curiosity of many passers-by.

“We wanted to attract people and have something that would catch their eye,” said Ms Simmons.

Even before the shop opened its doors people were stopping by to take pictures of its bright facade and speculate about what sort of shop was on the way.

All was revealed last Monday when B4 The Party opened for business.

The shop is directly opposite Hamilton Fire Station. Inside is a comprehensive selection of party supplies. There are five distinct areas inside the shop, all brightly coloured and spacious, where it is possible to find just about everything you’d need to host a party celebration.

The shop aims to meet the party needs of every customer.

Ms Simmons was previously an event planner, and through her own experience recognised there was a need for a shop dedicated to selling up-to-date party supplies.

“There was always a lack of trendy and new party items,” she said. “I knew there was a need, and I thought ‘Why not start up a business’.”

Word has quickly spread about the new business and yesterday afternoon, a week after opening its doors, the shop was attracting a steady stream of customers.

For Ms Simmons, it is the culmination of a vision to provide a one-stop shop for party supplies and extras, such as classroom party packages and a “say it with balloons” service.

The store has a large range of items for sale. One section of the shop has colourful party plates, some featuring cartoon and superhero characters and others with Disney themes.

Paper straws in a wide variety of colours and designs are on display in another area, while elsewhere there are disposable table cloths, paper lanterns and shelves filled with party bag fun items.

Selections of party candies and baby shower items can also be found, while themed balloons dominate one of the side rooms. Ms Simmons refers to this as “Bermuda’s first balloon room”. The shop has two delivery times per day for balloon arrangements through its “say it with balloons” service.

For parents who want to take some of the legwork out of party planning, B4 The Party does classroom party packages, taking care of all the arranging and delivery.

Ms Simmons is delighted with the impact the shop has had with customers in its opening week.

“The reaction has been great,” she said. “It’s a good location and we have made it eye-catching and people have said they like how it is so clean and organised and that they can order just about anything they want.”

Ms Simmons added: “It has been an experience setting up the shop. I feel it was the right decision.”

B4 The Party is located at 58 King Street.
