St George offers Sunday Shop ‘N’ Stroll series to attract shoppers

Sunday stroll: small businesses have organised a festive series of events to attract shoppers every Sunday between now and Christmas (File photograph)

Small businesses in St George's have launched the Sunday Shop ’n’ Stroll Series to boost holiday shopping in the Olde Towne.

Organisers say the aim of the festive series of events every Sunday between now and Christmas is to bring the community together to support local enterprises.

Cris Dapena, of one of the creators of an artist collective, Dragon’s Lair, said: “As a resident and co-creator of a business in St George’s, I can say our mission is bigger than any individual retailer, our goal with this series is to remind Bermudians how important shopping local is; and to show what good can be done when this community comes together.”

“We know how special St George’s is and want to make it a place for all, not just to shop, but to enjoy and make a day of. Our gallery will be providing free gifts with each purchase, a kids’ draw each Sunday, and weather permitting a tent on the patio where artists will be creating and providing activities for kids to enjoy.”

This series will run from 12pm to 4pm, featuring Bermudian-made jewellery, art, crafts, skincare products, clothing, and more.

There will be tours of the town, a bicycle tour run by Pedego at noon, child-friendly activities, live music by Purple Ferdinand, special fall drinks offered by BruMae Caffe, and entertainment from a local dance group.

Participating shops and restaurants will offer a “St George’s Shop ‘N’ Stroll Bingo Card” on which shoppers receive a stamp in any shop where they spend $10. Those with six stamps are eligible for a weekly draw. Each week there will be an additional weekly shopping draw for local prizes.
