A new product from One Communications allows customers using a mobile device to remotely manage security cameras, alarms, thermostats, lights, locks, and small appliances at their home.

There is also a version for small business.

One has partnered with Alarm.com, a smart home security and automation provider, to launch One SmartHome.

The technology is said to offer “smarter home security, video monitoring, and energy management”, and is managed through a smartphone app.

Brian Lonergan, chief commercial officer at One, said: “Customers will now have peace of mind knowing they can watch their kids come home safely from school, and remotely lock their doors or turn off their air conditioning units in case they forget.”

The monthly plans start from $15 and range from a video-only service to a full-suite automation and security package.

Frank Amaral, One’s CEO, said: “Our goal with this new product launch was to provide the solution to our customers without the large upfront equipment and installation fees usually associated with security and automation products. Customers can also benefit from potential savings on home insurance as well as cost savings on their electricity bills by controlling and automating air conditioning units, lights and small appliances.”

The product is also available to small businesses, allowing operators to keep an eye on their business around the clock.
