Aran Giffen and Salayah Stange have been selected as recipients of the 2022 EY Gil Tucker Bermuda Scholarships.

The scholarship fund was created in honour of Gil Tucker, who retired in 2015 and held the position of EY Bermuda country managing partner.

The scholarship is valued at up to $30,000 per year for a maximum of five years until the recipient has completed the minimum educational requirements to pursue their public accountant, actuarial or other designation based upon their field of study.

With the addition of Ms Stange and Mr Giffen, EY is providing $150,000 in scholarship support to Bermudian students for the 2022-2023 school year.

The award also includes a summer internship and an offer of full-time employment at EY Bermuda Ltd upon successful completion of the student’s university studies.

Mr Giffen attended Saltus Grammar School before transitioning to Appleby College and is now at the University of British Columbia, pursuing a bachelor of commerce degree.

Ms Stange recently graduated from Bermuda High School and will begin her studies this fall at the London School of Economics and Political Science, pursuing a BSc in actuarial science.

Kent Howard, EY Bermuda partner and student programmes committee leader, said: “Both Aran and Salayah have excelled in their studies and have demonstrated integrity, respect and teaming along their respective journeys.

Bill Bailey, EY Bermuda country managing partner and tax leader for the EY region of the Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands, added: “In today’s world, sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, governance) are vital and woven into everything we do at EY as we aspire to build a better working world.

“Here, in Bermuda, we are also keenly focused on the ‘S’, the social aspect of ESG, and one of the ways that we make an impact is through our scholarship programmes.

“In Bermuda, our most important natural resource is our people – and particularly our young people as we uplift and empower them to succeed in the future through education. The scholarship programme enables our young people to obtain fulfilling and rewarding careers, have an impact and pay it forward.”
