Digicel connects school with the world through Christmas gifts

With the help of some hi-tech advice from its customers, Digicel has donated five Samsung tablets to The Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy through its Pick & Give initiative.

Arisha-Rene Butterfield, marketing executive of Digicel Bermuda, said Digicel customers visiting retail stores over Christmas and the New Year were able to pick the donation the company would give to the school through is fundraising arm, The Friends of Hope Academy.

Ms Butterfield explained that Digicel introduced Pick & Win as a gamified way to win prizes in the MyDigicel app.

She said: “In order to make this real for customers and to thank the surrounding communities, the concept was translated into Pick & Give, where customers visiting Digicel retail stores, could help pick a gift to give back to the Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy.”

She added: “We are honoured to have the Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy as one of our community partners and we continue to support their efforts of bringing awareness to the school and their amazing students.”

Margaret Phillips, principal of the school, said: “On behalf of the members of the board of Friends of Hope Academy, and the students and staff of DMB Hope Academy, I wish to thank you for our Christmas gifts of Samsung Tablets!

“The novel manner in which you engaged the community in this Christmas Gift activity was thoughtful, and heart-warming, and the winning vote is timely. Thank you Bermuda for participating.“

The Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy is staffed and equipped to serve students with severe to profound multiple learning disabilities and complex care needs.

The donation of five Samsung tablets to the school would help students enhance their learning abilities and skills through the use of everyday technology, Digicel said.
