Three Bermudians will take part in a Canadian and Caribbean leadership initiative designed to provide different leadership perspectives.

Cara Lambe, of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Jaret Simmons, of Orbis Investment Management, and Ashley LaVonne Smith, of the Bermuda Public Services Union, will participate in Caribbean Canada Leaders Dialogue 2025.

The aim of CCLD 2025 is to build on longstanding Commonwealth relationships, featuring an opening in Canada, followed by study tours across Bermuda and various Caribbean countries, and a closing plenary in Barbados.

While Ms Lambe and Ms LaVonne Smith visit Barbados, and Mr Simmons tours Jamaica, 14 Canadian and Caribbean leaders will travel to Bermuda.

A spokesman for the event said CCLD 2025 recognises that developing capable, ethical leaders is one of the Commonwealth’s most important and complex responsibilities. It views leadership as not just coming from a textbook but rather from experiences that create dialogues which build participants’ leadership competencies.

Tammy Richardson-Augustus is Bermuda country tour lead, and co-chairs the Bermuda country tour’s steering committee with Edward Ball Jr.

She said: “CCDL was a cornerstone of my growth as a leader. It ignited my community spirit, forged invaluable partnerships, and unveiled pathways to meaningful change.”

Hosting participants in Bermuda gives her the opportunity to give back, not only to future leaders, but to the charity that gave her so much to her.

“I am also looking forward to our three Bermudian participants bringing their own transformative experiences back to their organisations and our community,” she said.

The Barbados tour explores impact-driven leadership, Bahamas diversity, inclusion and equity, Bermuda advocacy and policy reform, Dominica social-impact and community engagement, Grenada ethical and values-based leadership, Guyana sustainable development and innovation, and Jamaica collaborative partnerships and collective impact.

The conference tour is from May 22 to June 1.
