S&P Global Ratings has reaffirmed the AA financial strength rating for Assured Guaranty’s insurance subsidiaries and kept the A issuer credit rating for its parent company, Assured Guaranty Ltd, with a stable outlook.

S&P’s June 30 report commended the firm for its “robust capital position with a capital adequacy redundancy above S&P’s ‘AAA’ stress level”, as well as its “very strong” competitive position, “excellent” earnings, and “exceptional” liquidity.

The ratings agency also highlighted the company’s “well‑diversified global underwriting strategy”, noting that core business is rooted in the US public finance market, with expansion into structured finance, international government bonds and infrastructure projects, offering resilience when domestic markets dip.

In response, Assured Guaranty’s chief executive, Dominic Frederico said: “As S&P wrote in its report, we continue to maintain a robust capital position with capital in excess of S&P’s stress level requirement for a AAA rating. We have accomplished this while paying over $6 billion in net claims since 2007 and spending more than $6.5 billion to increase shareholder value through share repurchases and dividends.”

Mr Frederico added that the company has reduced its insured leverage by nearly 60 per cent over the same period. “Having repeatedly proven the strength and resilience of our business model, we believe we are in an excellent position to continue to lead the US municipal bond insurance market while further expanding and diversifying our global infrastructure and structured finance reach.”

Assured Guaranty’s global presence, including its headquarters at Woodbourne Avenue in Hamilton, and subsidiaries such as Assured Guaranty Re Ltd and Assured Guaranty Re Overseas, remains central to its strategy as the world’s largest financial guaranty reinsurer.
