Wilks wins Betts Scholarship
The Jonathan Betts legal scholarship has been awarded to Kennedy Wilks.
Law firm Walkers said the $30,000 scholarship was given to the Queen Mary university student entering his third year. The scholarship is named in honour and memory of Jonathan Betts, former head of the corporate department in Walkers' Bermuda office.
It was part of the firm’s annual legal bursary awards handed out to four aspiring law professionals.
Walkers said Mr Wilks was looking forward to working alongside his fellow summer interns.
A statement read: “He is eager to continue to build lasting connections, collaborating with peers and learning from others' perspectives.”
McKenzie-Kohl Tuckett has been awarded a 2025 Walkers legal scholarship in the amount of $30,000. She recently completed her Bachelor of Laws with Study Abroad from University of Bristol and will be commencing her Bar Vocational Studies in September at City St George's University of London.
A statement said: “She looks forward to the next month with Walkers and is particularly excited about spending five weeks learning from and working with practitioners in Walkers' litigation team.”
Owen Neal, a recipient of the 2025 Walkers bursary, has just completed his second year at the City Law School, University of London.
Oslo Adamson, also a recipient of the 2025 Walkers bursary and a returning intern, is a second-year law student at Durham University.
They have each been awarded $10,000 towards their legal studies.
"This year's bursary recipients have shown their commitment to their studies and desire to build careers in the legal field," said Rachel Nightingale, partner and co-chair of the firm's training committee.
“It's a pleasure to see their continued growth and enthusiasm as they take these next steps."
Nathalie West, partner and training committee co-chair, stated: "Supporting the academic and professional development of aspiring Bermudian lawyers is an important part of our long-term commitment to the community. We're pleased to always welcome aspiring professionals to Walkers and look forward to the contributions they'll make during their time with us."
