Construction association presents scholarship awards
More Bermudians are being drawn to industries that the island can build on, the Construction Association of Bermuda has noted.
The observation came as the association was recognising the concentration of Bermuda students in construction-related fields.
The CAOB recently awarded $22,500 in scholarships to Bermudians to help them to continue their education and training for a future in the construction industry.
The funds were raised at the association’s annual golf tournament, through title sponsor Flex Power Tools-Builders Depot, contributing sponsor H&H Plumbing & Mechanical Ltd and numerous other sponsors and donors.
Rachael Betschart is studying mechanical engineering at the University of Exeter, Neriah Bean is studying engineering at Oakwood University, Seth Hardtman is studying civil engineering at Morgan State University, Chad McNorton is studying construction management at Southern Adventist University and Tommy Marshall is studying construction engineering management at Loughborough University.
Bryan Adams, the vice-president of the CAOB and co-chair of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce construction division, commented: “It is encouraging to see the high number of students studying engineering and other construction-related programmes.
“These are skills Bermuda desperately needs to keep pace with the rapid advances in technology in our industry.”
He said the CAOB is dedicated to making the construction industry safer, more efficient, more competitive and better able to contribute to the development of Bermuda.
