Butterfield Bank has awarded Bermudian Jeriel Fernandes the $30,000 Sir Harry D Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship.

Ms Fernandes, a business major at the University of Liverpool in England, is keen to pursue a career in finance. The scholarship will cover up to four academic years.

Outside of stellar academics, she is a keen netball player, a candy striper and mentor in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters programme, a bank spokesman said.

Butterfield managing director Jody Feldman said: “Jeriel has worked hard to achieve academically in addition to making a positive difference to others.

“For the last 40 years, Butterfield has invested in the education of our young people and we look forward to following the successes of this year’s scholars.”

Students in Cayman and the Channel Islands also received scholarships.
