Bermudian businesses can now earn internationally recognised cybersecurity certifications without leaving the island, thanks to the arrival of British-based Cyber Tec Security.

The firm, one of Britain’s leading certifying bodies, has launched operations in Hamilton to offer the International Cyber Baseline and International Cyber Assurance certifications. Together, the programmes help organisations meet global cybersecurity standards while demonstrating compliance with Bermuda’s Personal Information Protection Act.

“This is about making cybersecurity practical and attainable,” said Mike Ralston, chief executive of Cyber Tec Security. “We’re giving Bermudian firms a cost-effective way to prove they’re safe, compliant and trusted — the qualities every modern customer and funder looks for.”

Chief operating officer Louise Ralston added: “We pride ourselves on having a human approach. Because we realise that people do not always have the time or expertise, we will hold a customer’s hand throughout the process. We will not leave them alone.”

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Jersey, Cyber Tec Security is Britain’s third-largest certifying body, serving more than 3,000 clients and completing over 250 assessments each month. Its expertise includes Cyber Essentials (United Kingdom), ICB and ICA, as well as vulnerability and penetration testing for governance, risk and compliance.

Mr Ralston said the ICA is now approved by the Bermuda Privacy Commissioner as a recognised route towards demonstrating Pipa compliance. “For the first time, firms can demonstrate international-level cybersecurity credentials right here at home,” he said.

Cyber Tec’s expansion aims to support Bermuda’s small and medium-sized enterprises, which often lack dedicated compliance staff or the budget for costly consultants. The company plans to employ and train local assessors and sales representatives to build long-term expertise on the island.

“Bermuda offers an ideal base — it’s innovative, well-connected and globally respected,” Mr Ralston added. “We’re excited to invest in local talent, work with Bermudian businesses and contribute to the island’s leadership in digital trust.”
