Salt Yoga opens studio in Hamilton
A new yoga studio has opened in Hamilton at 27 Front Street, the third island location for Salt Yoga.
Owner Emily Terceira said: “Opening a studio in town has allowed us to reach even more people looking to have yoga in their life, those who could not make it out of town to practise at our east and west locations.”
Salt Yoga is known for its outdoor classes at hotels such as the Loren in Smith’s and Azura in Warwick.
“About a year ago it became clear that our community was interested in more than weather-dependent yoga,” Ms Terceira said.
“Our brand is rooted in the natural and the elemental beauty that Bermuda has to offer. A permanent space in Hamilton had to offer serene views and an elemental feel.”
Ms Terceira has rented space in Hamilton at various locations over the years, but 27 Front Street felt like home.
“The addition of our Hamilton studio now means we have three practice locations around the island boasting beautiful views, teachers that create thoughtfully curated classes and heated yoga at our Hamilton location,” she said.
In heated yoga, practitioners are warmed with infrared heaters without the whole room becoming a furnace.
“It builds slowly as you practice, creating a warmth that feels organic and nourishing, and provides a good sweat,” she said.
Her yoga journey began when she was a dance major in college. Her best friend invited her to a yoga class.
“I was hooked immediately,” she said.
Yoga was a way to cross train for her dance career but also a reminder that it was OK to be human and give herself and others more grace and compassion.
Ms Terceira said movement, breath work and meditation were proven ways to calm your nervous system, important for the frenetic world we live in.
She created Salt Yoga in 2021 to bring the gift of movement and wellbeing to the community.
“It is a practice that has meant so much to me,” she said.
Salt Yoga’s classes are rooted in vinyasa yoga, ranging from advanced flow and handstands, to slow flow and vinyasa foundations. It also offers yin, acroyoga and Pilates.
“The practice of yoga is for everyone, and we mean that,” Ms Terceira said. “If you are not sure where to begin your movement journey, we would love for you to reach out so we can help you find the right place to start.”
Ms Terceira said Bermuda was lucky to have diversity in the movement and wellness industry.
“We are not here to compete with others,” she said. “We are simply offering another place to land — where you can feel at home in your body, reconnect with yourself and move in a way that feels true to you.”
