IoD forum examines future of board leadership

The Institute of Directors will host the Bermuda Directorship Forum next Thursday, October 23, focusing on how board leadership and governance expectations are evolving across the island’s corporate landscape.

The event, taking place from 3:30pm to 5pm at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, will bring together a panel of senior industry figures including Shanna Lespere, deputy chief executive of the Bermuda Monetary Authority; Natasha Scotland Courcy, CEO and general counsel of Athena Re Ltd; Christian Dunleavy, group president and CEO of Aspen Bermuda Ltd; and Neville Grant, CEO of the Bermuda Bankers Association. The discussion will be moderated by entrepreneur and independent non-executive director, Shivani Seth.

“The role and expectations of INEDs are changing from a regulatory and governance perspective,” Ms Seth said. “The bar is rising, and changes are on the horizon.”

Michelle Cardwell, executive director of IoD Bermuda, said the forum will give attendees a chance to hear directly from respected leaders about the skills and responsibilities shaping modern boardrooms.

“This forum will provide a high-level discussion on how the boardroom is changing,” she said. “Professional development is essential, as INEDs will need to know the value and skills they bring to the table.”

The event is open to both members and non-members of the IoD. Registration details are available at iod.bm or by e-mailing membersupport@iod.bm.

Formed in 1991, IoD Bermuda is a branch of the United Kingdom’s IoD and offers professional training, seminars and networking opportunities to support good governance across Bermuda’s business and non-profit sectors.
