American import tariffs rolled out in April, some as high as 50 per cent, have not dampened Bermuda’s zeal for imported Christmas presents.

Courier company ZipX Bermuda’s managing director, Kevin Smith, said it has had no impact at all on customer behaviour this holiday season.

“We have had a very busy and festive Christmas season,” Mr Smith told The Royal Gazette.

Mr Smith has seen imports continue to grow across both personal and business customers. The volume of packages coming in is up compared to 2024.

This news came in spite of a $5.1 million drop in imports by courier in July, according to the latest Retail Sales Index figures.

“Customers are continuing to rely on us for holiday shopping,” Mr Smith said.

He said customers were taking advantage of the firm’s policies such as no membership fee, no United States tax fee, no insurance fee and no dimensional weight charge.

“We have seen everything from televisions and appliances to toys, clothing and gifts,” the executive said. “For those skipping real trees, there have also been imports of artificial Christmas trees and a wide range of decorations.”

Mr Smith said it has been great to see the variety of items coming through this season, from big-ticket purchases to festive decor.

“Customers have really embraced the convenience of ZipX Bermuda and our team has worked hard to keep everything moving smoothly during a very busy and cheerful time of year,” he said.

Things have been going so well this season that ZipX Bermuda hired on extra part-time staff.

“We brought on several new and returning students to support our full-time team and they have been a tremendous help during this busy period,” he said.

Mr Smith thanked ZipX Bermuda’s customers for their continued support.
