George Simons bridging gap between contractors and clients
Sometimes it can be hard to find just the right painter, landscaper or plumber, especially if you are new to Bermuda.
George Simons thinks he has the answer.
The digital creator is onboarding professionals for his new webpage Bda Home Pros, designed to connect contractors with potential clients.
“Professionals who sign on will receive an app to create a profile and manage tasks such as invoicing,” he said.
The website was in development by LeadXdesign and is being managed by Keeon Minors.
Bda Home Pros will be free to use for people looking for a contractor, while a fee will apply to the professionals who list themselves.
In addition, the website will offer tips, hacks and information to educate the public about the hiring process, home maintenance and renovation projects.
Mr Simons’ advice to people looking to start home improvement projects is to have a clear budget in mind.
“You need to be clear on a time frame for the things you want done,” he said. “Make sure you have the right person doing a task. You usually do not want to have a mason doing carpentry work and vice versa.”
Bda Home Pros will also have a forum where people can ask questions, exchange information and leave reviews.
“We learn from each other,” Mr Simons said.
He wants the website to facilitate a high standard of transparency, quality and professionalism.
“Bda Home Pros has been approved by the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and the Construction Association of Bermuda,” he said. “I am also trying to do something with Bermuda Workforce Development.”
He wants to make Bda Home Pros the construction version of apps like Sargasso or Angi’s List.
Mr Simons sees a gap in the market in terms of contracting directories in Bermuda.
“Most people go on social media, or Maj’s List or get information by word of mouth when they are looking to hire someone,” he said.
The aim of Bda Home Pros is to simplify the process.
“The website is already there,” he said. “It is just a matter of people now hearing about it and signing on.”
He is no stranger to start-ups.
“I have over ten years of experience in supporting and funding start-ups that offer innovative and social impact solutions,” he said.
“I have invested in more than 145 international start-up companies across various sectors and platforms, such as Ai, LiquidPiston and WiGL.”
He said he wanted to find and back emerging technologies that could make a positive difference in the world.
