iNails opens with focus on Asian-inspired products
Sherry Trott started selling press-on nails in a kiosk on the ground floor of the Washington Mall two years ago, while she sold office furniture upstairs.
“It was a side hustle, but demand for the nails grew and grew,” Sherry said.
This week iNails moved upstairs into the space left empty after she moved her furniture business into a showroom downstairs in March.
iNails has expanded to include a range of fun, Asian-inspired products such as Hello Kitty plushies, party items and Japanese stationery and school supplies, cosmetics and other things.
“I saw the opportunity to bring in more good quality merchandise directly to Bermuda at competitive prices,” Sherry said.
Her sister-in-law, Tonae Trott, is manning iNails.
Their official opening last Saturday saw a steady stream of shoppers.
“Customers bought a range of stuff,” Tonae said. “We sold a lot of our signature product, the nails, but we also sold plushies, keychains and stuffies. We had over 50 customers that day. It was a good day.”
Since then they have been a popular after-school stop for youngsters of all ages and also adults.
Tonae loves to see the children browsing because they often return later with money in hand, or their parents in tow to buy something.
One challenge for Sherry has been the cost of shipping. She estimated it has gone up by at least 25 per cent since the beginning of the year.
Another hurdle was getting everything assembled after bringing everything including store furniture into Bermuda from China.
“It took us a week to get it all set up,” Tonae said.
Several people have asked if iNails is a permanent fixture or a pop-up.
“Customers have come in and said ‘oh my gosh, are you real’,” Sherry said. “I tell them we are here to stay.”
She said their space is a great spot; she just needs to get awareness out that they are there. “I am sure that will not take too long,” she said.
Beyond price and product, Sherry is focused on making iNails feel like a destination — a place where customers linger, browse and find something new.
“Our goal is to make sure we keep our customers happy,” she said.
The iNails team continues to refine the product mix based on real‑time responses from patrons.
“The customers are giving us great feedback,” she said. “They say we should have this or that also. That is nice.”
Her plan is to regularly switch up the merchandise, so there is always something new for customers.
“We will keep restocking the most popular items,” she said.
Meanwhile, her furniture store is doing well in its new location downstairs while she waits for another furniture shipment to arrive.
