Pompano owners anticipate autumn sale

For sale: the iconic Pompano Beach Club has paused reservations for 2027 (File photograph)

With the Pompano Beach Club on the market, the iconic Southampton property has stopped accepting reservations for next year.

However, managing director Tom Lamb III emphasised to The Royal Gazette that no sale has been finalised.

In a response to a woman seeking to make a booking, which has been shared on social media, Mr Lamb wrote: “We anticipate the sale of our resort to be finalised this fall and the buyers are not sure what kind of renovations they are going to do.

“We’re not taking any reservations for 2027 until we know what their renovation plans entail.”

Mr Lamb and his brother, Larry, have been running Pompano since 1989. It has been in the family for 70 years.

“Our family has made the difficult decision to sell Pompano,” Mr Lamb wrote. “While my brother, Larry and I love what we do, we are ready to retire and spend more time with our families.”

In June, the hotel said via social media that it was premature to make any pronouncements about the future.

“Our priority is to to continue to welcome our loyal former guests and newcomers to our storied property,” he said.

According to the resort’s website, Pompano was originally started by Mr Lamb’s father, also called Tom Lamb, from Massachusetts.

After falling in love with Bermuda during the early 1950s, the senior Mr Lamb partnered with Ewing Trott to start the island’s first fishing club.

In January 1956, Mr Trott reported that the club had catered to more than 1,600 people within the first 11 months of operation.

Mr Lamb eventually purchased the club outright from Mr Trott following the passage of the Pompano Act in Parliament.

The Act allowed a foreign investor to purchase property in Bermuda and was widely considered pivotal because it paved the way for other properties to be acquired in a similar way.
