Natasha Scotland Courcy re-elected as Biltir board chair

Natasha Scotland Courcy has been re-elected as board chair of the Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers, while Jamie Schmerer has been named vice-chair.

Ms Scotland Courcy is chief executive officer and general counsel of Athene Life Re, while Mr Schmerer is head of enterprise risk management at Fortitude Re.

Also joining the board this week were Somerset Re CEO Danish Iqbal, Tibor Leeuwenburgh, country executive for Aegon Bermuda; and Joseph Barrowclough, chief financial officer of Gibraltar Reinsurance and Lotus Reinsurance.

“Biltir plays a vital role in advancing Bermuda’s long-term reinsurance industry,” Biltir CEO Suzanne Williams-Charles said. “Serving on the board reflects an intense dedication to this jurisdiction’s growth. We are grateful for Natasha’s continued leadership and congratulate Jamie on his new role as vice-chair.”

She said Mr Iqbal, Mr Leeuwenburgh and Mr Barrowclough brought with them unique perspectives and decades of experience to strengthen the board’s ability to represent and support Biltir members.

“Strong leadership from our board members has been a cornerstone of our progress in recent years,” Ms Williams-Charles said. “Their guidance has helped advance Biltir’s mission and strengthen Bermuda’s position as a leading reinsurance hub.”
