Top motorcycle racer Paul DeCouto has outdone himself again. The 43-year old Bermudian surpassed his expectations competing at Miami Homestead Raceway at the weekend.DeCouto won the Expert Formula 40 event with his Cycle Care Racing Suzuki GSXR 1000 by a convincing margin. It was far more than he had bargained for heading into the race."I went into the weekend not expecting to place well because this race was planned as an opportunity to shake the cobwebs off my bike, make suspension adjustments to suit my reduced body weight and to get reacquainted with my bike," he said."I am pleased with my results both in scoring first on the podium and the progress made over the winter off-season as a direct result of a good diet and training programme."Sunday's win in Miami was the perfect confidence booster for DeCouto ahead of his first official race of the 2013 season at Roebeling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia next month."I look forward to my first official race of the season in the Semi Pro League," he said. “I am excited and optimistic about the upcoming season.“I have been training rigorously in the gym, cycling and jogging. I’ve lost over 100 pounds and I feel great.”Last year saw DeCouto produce several podium displays, including seven at last April’s Southeast & Mid Atlantic Championship Series at Carolina Motorsport Park. The veteran racer capped another successful campaign on the CCS circuit after being crowned 2012 Southeast Regional Champion in two classes.DeCouto won the Expert Pirelli GTO and Expert Unlimited Grand titles after accumulating the most point during the season.
