Local karters primed for Dash for Cash endurance race
Bermuda’s karting drivers have added incentive to race this weekend as they will compete for a share of the prize money in the inaugural Southside 250 Dash for Cash.
The event starting at noon at Bermuda Motorsports Park at Clearwater, St David’s on Sunday, will feature 14 drivers competing in the LO 206 4-stroke engine class in a two-hour oval Endurance Race, the first of its kind at the east end racetrack.
The winner will receive $2,800, the runner-up $1,700 and third-placed driver $700, with each team consisting of two drivers that will take the wheel at different intervals.
Organisers are looking forward to what promises to be a fun and exciting day of racing at an event which they hope will become a permanent fixture on the annual calendar.
“It is going to be great fun and good racing for the participants and an exciting experience for the spectators,” a spokesman said.
“It’s different than circuit racing so it’s a toss-up. Everybody that’s entering is a contender to win. This is the first staging of this event and also the first time doing an oval-style, Nascar-type event at Bermuda Motorsport Park.
“We will also be joining the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association and Bermuda Motocross Association as one big motorsports day.”
