The annual Rubis Around the Island Race has once again fallen prey to adverse weather.

The Bermuda Power Boat Association has confirmed that the race, which had been rescheduled for Sunday, has been postponed because of a small-craft warning issued by the Bermuda Weather Service.

The advisory remains in effect until Sunday night.

“As a result, the Bermuda Power Boat Association committee has met and we have decided that we will not be able to host the annual Around the Island Boat Race this coming Sunday and, as such, we will be looking to go on August 31,” Janae Nesbitt, the Bermuda Power Boat Association commodore, told The Royal Gazette.

“In any event, we take the safety of our drivers and our marshal boats into consideration, and it will be very unsafe to have them go and race this coming Sunday, especially with the front that is due to come in.”

The race spectacle was originally supposed to take place on August 17 but was postponed because of thunderstorms that preceded the passage of Hurricane Erin.
