Karting season gathers pace as newcomers join grid
After being forced to cancel a meeting as a result of inclement weather, the Bermuda Karting Association returned to action on Sunday, hosting meeting ten of the Bermuda Rubis Energy Karting Championship at Southside.
A strong field of 42 drivers took to the track for an exciting day of competition, with the L206 Senior class welcomed newcomer Stephen Flood to the grid.
Heats one and two delivered consistent results, with Jason “Skuzzie” North claiming victory in both races. Owen DeCosta, Robert Wheatly, and David Barbosa rounded out positions two through four. Heat 3, however, brought a shake-up in the order, as Wheatly secured victory ahead of Barbosa in second. Harry Dunkley finished third, followed by Chris Smith in fourth.
In the TAG Senior division, Nathan DeCosta dominated the field, taking first place in all three heats. The battle for the remaining podium spots proved more competitive. Ryan Burgess secured second place in the opening two heats with Blake Horseman finishing third in both those races. Jorja Thomas delivered a strong showing with third-place finishes in heats one and three and fourth in Heat 2. Jonah Moniz fourth in heat one and third in heat two.
The TAG Junior class featured a thrilling contest for the top spot across all three heats. Alondro Albouy captured the checkered flag in the last two heats, while Tanner Correia claimed victory in the opener[ener. Syah Pedro secured third place in heats one and two. Jonathan Linberg crossed the line in fourth during heat one.
In the KZ Shifter class, 17 karts reached top speeds in one of the day’s most competitive categories, with fans treated to intense racing.
Ryan Rebello and Chris Ricca demonstrated remarkable consistency, finishing first and second respectively in all heats. Third place changed hands in each race, with Jason Correia, Stephen Corrado and David Selley occupying that position in each heat.
In the KZ Masters class, Jason DeCouto delivered a steady and commanding performance to win all three heats. Rian Lindo earned second-place finishes in the final two heats and third in the opener. William Dunkley took second in the opening heat and third in heats two and three.
The Cadet class welcomed two new young drivers in Miguel Cabral and Mason Sousa. Consistency defined the category as Tanner Correia swept all three heats. Jacob Garrett secured second place throughout the day followed by Cabral in third and Sousa in fourth.
