Rain catalyst for competitive racing at Southside

Action from the racetrack

The karting community braved rain and overcast skies to compete in Race 11 of the Bermuda Rubis Energy Karting Championship on Sunday.

With changing track conditions throughout the event, the near-40 drivers on show were tested not only on speed but adaptability as rain tyres and quick decision-making became critical factors across multiple classes.

Some of the day’s most competitive battles came in the L206 class. Jason “Skuzzie” North dominated all eight laps in heat one controlling the race from start to finish, with David Selley and Brian Bulhoes fighting hard for second and third respectively.

North led for seven of the eight laps in heat two, but David Selley turned the tables in the closing stages for victory with Justin Lindo finishing third. With rain falling in the third heat and teams switching to wet tyres, North returned to form, claiming his second victory of the day. Justin Lindo finished second, followed by Selley in third and John Carreiro in fourth.

In the Tag Senior division, Blake Horseman proved untouchable, sweeping all three heats. Ryan Burgess showed steady pace, taking second in the opening race and third in heat two. Nathan DeCosta demonstrated consistency, finishing third in heat one and improving to second in the other two races. John Carreiro Jr maintained fourth position in the first two heats before stepping onto the podium with a third-place finish. Jonah Moniz placed fifth in the first two heats and fourth in the final race.

The Tag Junior class was dominated by Tanner Correia, who claimed top honours for the day, maintaining first position across the heats. Alondro Albouy secured second-place finishes in the first and third heat, and was fourth in heat two. Jonathan Linberg showed competitive pace, finishing third, second and fourth the three heats. Syah Pedro was fourth in the opening race and third in the final two heats.

Correia continued his strong performance in the Cadet class, sweeping all three heats. Jacob Garrett recorded second-place finishes in the first two heats. Miguel Cabral showed improvement throughout the day, posting finishes of third, fourth, and second. Mason Sousa earned a fourth-place finish and two third-place results.

In KZ Master, William Dunkley secured first place in two of the day’s heats. Jason DeCouto claimed victory in the remaining heat and added two second-place finishes.

The KZ class proved to be the most dynamic of the day, with position changes in every heat. Heat 1 featured Ryan Burgess taking the win ahead of Horseman in second and Stephen Corrado in third. Corrado moved to the top step of the podium in heat two, with Ryan Rebello finishing second and Horseman third. Heat three brought another shuffle, as Horseman claimed victory, Burgess finished second and Corrado was third.
