Steven Bridges and David Selley chalked up their second win of the season at the Thunder On Cocoa Beach in Florida on Sunday.

Competing in their 32ft twin-engined catamaran, Team Bermuda, the local duo overcame punishing rough seas to cross the finish line nearly four seconds ahead of runners-up Darren Kittredge and Casey Boaz (Northwing Offshore). Jeremy Tschida and Julian Maldonado (Wozencraft) took third another 41 seconds behind the leaders to round off the podium finishers.

Bridges and Selley passed leaders Kittredge and Boaz on the penultimate lap of the four lap race contested in 6 to 7ft waves and they maintained their advantage to solidify their lead in the IHRA Offshore Powerboat Series.

“Feels great to get the win,” boat owner and throttle man Bridges told The Royal Gazette.

“It took a lot of hard work today, a few slams and a couple of ‘oh no’ moments along the wa, but we kept pushing and it paid off.

“Huge day for the points standings and overall we couldn’t have asked for a better result.

“Thanks to our team, sponsors, family and friends. Special thanks to Scott Porta for his expertise and all he does for the team.”

Selley was happy to see the team reap reward for their patient approach in the trying conditions.

“The conditions were brutal and we were up against the best. But we stayed patient and it paid off,” he said.

“Long weekend after a disappointing qualifying, but we still had a solid position and made the right adjustments.

“Super proud of the team and the calls we made, everything came together when it mattered.”

Bridges and Selley have been the most consistent team in the IHRA Offshore Powerboat Series after winning the St Petersburg Powerboat Grand Prix to start the season and finishing runner-up in the New Orleans Powerboat Grand Prix.

Also flying the island’s banner in Florida at the weekend was the team of Luis Martins and Nick Imprescia, who placed sixth in their boat Nuff Said.
